I played with the Image Chef sketchpad...
You can play with it without signing in, but you can't save your image without doing so. Here is a Jing screenshot of my cat Bailey (Ain't he sweet?)
You can pick a background color and the "symbols" will be inserted with that color too. I noticed if you create an account you can also insert items from "My Symbols" or "Favorites"
I bet having your own symbols would be good if you have a library logo or image you want to use consistently in a marketing or outreach campaign
